Obituary

Johnny Junior Winder
Elmo, Utah

It is with great sorrow we have lost our brother, uncle, nephew, and friend from complications of bladder cancer. Johnny passed away at his home in Elmo on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, with his sister Emma at his side. He was born in Price, Utah on April 14, 1946 to Virl Evert Winder and Thelma Black. He was the eighth child of eight children, four boys and four girls. He was raised in Elmo and attended school in Elmo and Huntington. He graduated from North Emery High School in 1965. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He worked on the farm and in the construction of homes until he went to work for Price City in the maintenance department from where he retired in 2014 after 34 years. Johnny had a big heart. He loved his family, friends and people, country music and dancing, and, in recent months, talking on the phone to fill in the lonely hours of having to stay home. He was an avid basketball fan, his favorite teams being the Jazz and the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Utah State University Eastern in Price. He seldom missed a game and was an honorary cheerleader for over 20 years. He always looked forward to the World Series Baseball games and going to the Cowboy Club to watch the playoffs. He was always a willing helper to family and friends. He never missed a Winder or Black Family reunion.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Evert, a sister, Dorothy, two baby brothers, and two baby sisters. Johnny is survived by his sister, Emma LaRae Weber, of Elmo, Sister-in-Law, Gloria A. (Evert, deceased) Winder of Price, seven nieces and one nephew, plus many great nieces and nephews, and one Aunty LaDean (Black) Weight, of Stansbury Park, Utah, and a dear friend, Nena Allen, of Huntington, Utah.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. A viewing will be on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. and from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. before the service. Live-streaming of the service will be available on Fausett Mortuary Facebook page. Internment is at the Victor Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. In place of flowers, please take someone special out to eat or donate to your favorite charity.

My Dear Uncle,
My heart is broken knowing I will never have the opportunity to hear your voice or see you again in this life. You were always such a source of joy – ever smiling and ready with a story and hug. Thank you for being such a good example of unconditional love and kindness. You always did your best and forever reached out to make others feel better. We join together in our sorrow at your passing but know there are many filled with joy to have you with them again.
Love,
Pete & Rebecca Palacios

My dear Uncle,
You incredible spirit and sweet smile will be missed. I always love how you always tried to take care of all of us. You were always so proud of your family. So grateful you were mine. I remember how my boy was so shy but never afraid to talk to you. I remember going to the zoo together and he wanted to ride next to you instead of mom. We love you!

I first met Johnny at breakfast at the Greenwell years ago. He always sat the counter and had a forever smile and treated me like we had known each other for years. I never knew him to have a bad day, regardless. I finally caught up with him at the Outlaw Cafe in Wellington several months ago and the last time was the Cowboy Club. Rest in peace my forever friend.

Condolence to the Winder Family! I worked with Johnny for 27 years with the City and there was never a dull moment with Johnny and his funny sayings, Johnny was a good little worker and he was always helping out on what ever you were doing, he didn't care if he got dirty or sweaty he was always willing and able. I will miss seeing him at the city events doing his fancy moves dance, Johnny love dancing to any song they would play. I'll miss your visits my Friend. RIP Johnny J Winder.
