I always loved Bad Oman. Especially when we would have our patriotic program and he would tell the story of the flag. It still touches me today to think about this. He had a true dedication to the Lord and his country, what a truly wonderful saint he was. He always allowed us staff members at the camp anytime we would be frustrated, to come down and shoot some rounds. And what was more fitting than for him to die on his country's Independence Day, the country he loved so much. God Bless America, and Bad Oman. :)

Bad Oman was one of my dearest friends. I worked with him at Schofield and he quickly became a mentor and a friend. I loved visiting with him sitting outside his camper in the evenings talking or at the rifle range. He taught me how to shoot black powder. He would brag to the scouts that I was the best sharp shooter even though that was not really the case. He claimed that I was his granddaughter and told the scouts if they messed with me they would answer to him. He could seam gruff perhaps at times but really he was the kindest gentlest man. He was always watching out for me. Over the years we kept in touch by phone and once he took my sister and I on a desert tour. He was a wise man and shared his knowledge and love for his country with others. I loved the patriotic program that we put on at Schofield weekly and I will never forget Bad's part. His love and passion came out so strongly then you couldn't help but feel it and ponder on the sacrifices of this great country. It was very powerful. I cant think of Schofield without thinking of Bad. He Has touched countless lives. I will miss our talks and I look forward to seeing him on the other side. I deeply regret that I could not be at the services to honor him. My prayers and thoughts are with all his family and friends.

A long, long time ago in the small town of Lark, Utah I first met Bert. Being a small mining town (now gone), we didn't have much. But we did have a Babe Ruth baseball team and Bert was always there to help us in whatever way. Special memories about a special man. He will be missed but forever remembered.
God Bless!

I met "Bad Omen" at Scofield scout camp several years ago, loving the time and patience he dedicated to the youth. He taught more boys to properly handle a firearm than most parents. My love to the family.

"Bad" Omen was truely one of my greatest scouting mentours. He inspired me to be more then I thought I was. The summers I spent at camp with Bad were some the best summers of my life. I will never be able to hear the poem, "Tattered Old Flag" without hearing his voice or seeing his eyes swell up with tears. His love for God and his country shined bright in his scouting career. I Love you Bad, thank you for all of your love and service. Goodbye "Muffin Man", you will be greatly missed.

Bad Oman has been and will be a HERO for my whole life. Having worked with him at Scofield for 10 years I grew to love him as a colleague, mentor, and friend. Over time that friend became a father figure to me as I discussed life decisions and hard choices. He was influential in me choosing to serve a mission, in where I would go to school, and in what career I would pursue. I will never forget the countless hours I spent in front of his trailer discussing the matters of life.

Words, can't describe how much he will be missed. God Bless You Bad Oman!

I loved "Bad" and so did all my kids. Both my boys worked with him at Scofield and when my girls came up on family days he treated them like princess'. When I volunteered up at camp he always traded stories with me sitting outside his trailer. He was a great patriot and there are a lot of boys who looked up to him and will NEVER forget the Bad Oman experience at scout camp. I really missed him last year & was so sorry to hear of his passing. I hope to see him on the other side. I wish I could make it to his services, I'll be there in spirit. Happy trails my friend!

I loved Bert like a brother. I will miss the times I had him up to Joes Valley when I was camping. Him pounding on my trailer in the early morning to wake me up when he would come up for breakfast. Including when we started stories!! There is many things I will miss, our phone calls, his stories and cowboy poetry.
love Aunt Leora

Our Scout Troop had the great honor to meet Mr. Oman at the Scofield Camp not long ago. He was the highlight of a very memorable experience. The boys were inspired by Mr. Oman's professionalism, expertise and love of doing something well. I'm sure those boys, like the hundreds and hundreds of other Boy Scouts, will never forget Bert "Bad" Oman. He had the great sense to teach the boys how to have fun while working hard and being safe, not only on the shooting range, but in life. The boys learned first-hand from a man who loved life and knew how to live in the moment. For that Mr. Oman will be truly missed on earth. May his memory be eternal.

I loved my time working with Bad on the rifle range up at Scofield. Especially when there weren't very many people on the rifle range and we got to sit and talk together, Or when we would come up with a practical joke to play on someone. I always felt privileged when he would let me catch a ride on the back of his four wheeler when we went to lunch, or when he would ask me to come sit by him in the kitchen when all of the other staff had to be outside. I think that my favorite times would have to be sitting in front of his trailer on our off time, eating cherries, talking, and sharing stories. Bad was a father figure when I needed one and friend the rest of the time. He is an incredible man and I will miss him alot

I have fond memories of Bad Oman. His stories at Camp Scofield had a certain authenticity that brought so much flavor to the experience. He was reliable, patient, and kind. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, I know he will be missed.

Bert spoke softly but his actions set a great example for me. He helped adult scouters as much as the youth. A good teacher and a great friend. His Campfire stories and tall tales were enjoyed by many.

How fitting that he passed away on the 4th of July. I'll never forget the spirit he brought when he would talk about this great country! He would have us Scouts look out over Scofield Reservoir toward Skyline and say - "There's not room enough on all the hills you see to bury the men and women who have died fighting for our freedom."

So sorry for your loss. I remember coming to Bert's home in Lark as a child and how much fun we would have with the girls Jackie and Barbara. I remember that Naoima made us the best dinners. Bert always had a big smile for you and a nice hello and hug. I will miss seeing him in our community.
Sending prayers your way!!

Love
